The camu camu berry, is one of the most concentrated forms of naturally occurring vitamin C, containing up to thirty times more of this vitamin than an orange. The fruit is about the same size as a cherry. Organic camu camu powder contains bioflavonoids and phytonutrients, in addition to a variety of vitamins and antioxidants. Among other things, vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune and nervous systems as well as energy metabolism.
Cultivated sustainably and without the use of pesticides or fertilisers, the camu camu trees grow in their natural environment in the Peruvian Amazon. The berries are air-dried at low temperatures (35 to 40 degrees) and gently ground into a fine powder under controlled conditions. With this process, 100 kg of fresh camu camu berries provide 4.5 kg of concentrated fruit powder. The powder has a vitamin C content of 12-14%, which is approximately 350 mg per teaspoon.
